CLHS Hosts Mental Health Seminar

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5)--The Central Louisiana Human Services district held its annual public forum in Pineville Wednesday.

CLHS works to provide those with substance abuse, mental health and developmental disabilities with the help they need.

Wednesday's public forum offered a snapshot of the services provided in the district. One of those services is prevention. CLHS works with schools and community organizations to help educate the public about behavioral health issues.

"Young people are beginning to experiment with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Young people are experiencing mental health issues, going thru developmental disability issues and if they are not addressed then, then those people tend to fall thru the cracks and they're mislabel, mis-diagnosed and mistreated," Chauncey Hardy, a CLHS representative said.

Director Egan Jones says they hope to continue to develop and expand the services available in the district this year.
