Shelter pets to march in Mardi Gras Children's Parade

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Alexandria Animal Shelter's monthly Saturday Pet Adoption Day for March celebrates Mardi Gras and puts a little twist on the day.

Shelter dogs will strut their stuff along with the Krewe of Kolbi Bow Wow in the Alexandria Children's Parade, which begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, in downtown Alexandria.

Shelter volunteers will walk several adoptable canines in the parade along with Kolbi Bow Wow dogs.

The shelter dogs will then be available for adoption at the Friends of the Alexandria Zoo's King Cake Party in the Zoo parking lot after the parade until about 2:00 p.m. Adoption fees are $90 for males and $95 for females, cash or check only.

The adoption fees cover the expenses for neuter/spay procedures, a vet exam, the first set of shots, and rabies vaccination.

For more information about adoptable pets at the Alexandria Animal Shelter go to www.coaas.org. The Krewe of Kolbi Bow Wow is celebrating its 15th anniversary.

The parade is a wonderful opportunity for pampered pets to "strut their stuff," and for some of Alexandria's homeless dogs to find new forever homes.

The early registration fee to participate in the Mardi Gras Saturday Children's Parade is $25 for the first dog and $20 for additional dogs. Certain breed restrictions apply to ensure the safety of children. You can register the day of the parade as well.
