Grant Parish Fatal Crash

GRANT PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) A single-vehicle crash killed a young man from Dry Prong, LA and injured several others, early Sunday morning. 

State Police investigators say he was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. 

Police say alcohol usage is a suspected factor in the crash.

Troopers responded to the crash around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, which occurred on Race Track Road near US Hwy 167. 

The crash involved a 2009 GMC pickup, driven by 21-year-old Chad G. Chandler.

Troopers say the GMC was southbound on Race Track Road when Chandler lost control and exited the right side of the roadway.  After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with an embankment before overturning. 

Chandler was pronounced dead.  His passengers are identified as a 16-year-old female juvenile of Colfax, LA, 20-year-old Gray Channing of Bentley, LA, 19-year-old Averi Leger of Natchitoches, LA, and 20-year-old Kelsey L. Routh of Pineville, LA. 

Investigators tell us none of the passengers were wearing a seatbelt, all received moderate injuries, and were transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center. 

Channing and Leger were also thrown from the vehicle.

Routine toxicology tests are pending, and the crash remains under investigation.
