NPSO Detectives arrest local woman again for Identity Theft

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's High Tech Crime Unit Detectives arrested a local woman, originally arrested in connection with an Identify Theft Scheme on Feb. 4, after new information surfaced following her release on bond from the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office.

On Friday, Feb. 21,  Margaret Lanell Self, 39, of Natchitoches, was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and charged with 20-counts of Forgery, 26-counts of Identity Theft,  26-counts of Bank Fraud, and 6-counts of Illegal Transmission of Monetary Funds.

The latest investigation and arrest stems from a report filed with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office in connection with several checks forged, and unauthorized online bill payments allegedly made by Self on her ex-boyfriend's banking account.

NPSO reported detectives reviewed financial statements and learned twenty checks were allegedly forged by Self in the amount of $2740. Detectives also found six unauthorized electronic fund transfers to pay credit card bills in the amount of $669.00.

In the previous investigation, Self was charged with 7-counts of Felony Identity Theft, 7-counts of Unauthorized Use of an Access Card, and 6-counts of Illegal Transmission of Monetary Funds which amounted to nearly $30,900.00.

Self remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.
