Hotel Bentley opening delayed

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The opening of the Hotel Bentley has been pushed back indefinitely.

The historic hotel was supposed to reopen in March but a water pipe recently broke flooded the entire downstairs area.

Bentley owner Mike Jenkins says that he doesn't know the full extent of the damage.

He says that water also got down into the elevator shafts, and that the recently replaced elevators were located on the bottom floor at the time of the flooding.

"We did know from the very beginning that we wanted it done right, if we were going to do it. But, it's been tremendously more than we did expect," said Jenkins.

Jenkins said he hopes to know by the middle of the week how long the Bentley's opening will be delayed.
