ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - An open house was held February 25 for the University Academy of Central Louisiana.

The academy is the brand new high school at Oakland Hall on the LSUA campus.

Students who are interested in receiving up to 60 college credit hours upon graduation are encouraged to apply.

The school is designed to allow students to experience high school and college at the same time.

"We have had a flood of people from many school districts: Vernon, Grant, Rapides, Avoyelles. It has been an overwhelming response to the offering of a unique program in Central Louisiana," said Heather Poole with LSUA.

The school will open in the fall of 2014.
