ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Students and faculty at LSU Alexandria got the Mardi Gras party started with their annual parade through campus Wednesday.

The parade featured more than 20 entries which included floats, funny-looking characters and the Peabody Magnet High School marching band. There was plenty of candy and beads to go around as well. To top off the celebration, everyone was treated to a gumbo and king cake party. New chancellor Dr. Daniel Howard attended the festivities and says it was a great turnout.

"There were a lot of people out here catching beads and food and just having a good time," said Dr. Howard. "It's a cold day but everybody stuck it out and stayed with us and made the gumbo taste all the better."
