Taste of Mardi Gras and Parade Fun

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The tires and good times were rolling down Murray Street at the Hixson Autoplex Classic Cars and College Cheerleaders Parade in Downtown Alexandria.

The parade kicked off Friday afternoon, setting the Mardi Gras celebration underway in Cenla.

"It brings in so many people from other areas which is nice because everyone gets to party," said one parade attendee.

There's still plenty of Mardi Gras to experience in Cenla, including plenty of fun and of course, plenty of beads.

Later that evening, the Taste of Mardi Gras was held at the Alexandria Riverfront Center.

"We're  here with a fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network and a fundraiser for the education foundation of the Louisiana Restaurant Association," said Nick Carrozza, Jr., an organizer of the yearly event.

The foundation mentioned by Carrozza is tHe Prostart Program at Pineville High School.

It's a culinary program designed to teach students about the restaurant business. And, like the Pineville Prostart students, Cenla businesses also set up booths at the Taste of Mardi Gras to give Cenla a taste of what they had to offer.

People flocked to the event from near and far to experience Mardi Gras, Cenla style. Some attended from as far away as Michigan and New York.

From classic cars and college cheerleaders, to classic creations and high school chefs,it's a Mardi Gras celebration, Louisiana style!
