NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested a Texas woman on felony drug charges during a traffic stop on Interstate 49 on March 1, 2014, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Criminal Patrol Units were working on Interstate 49 north of the Powhatan exit, on Saturday morning at approximately 7:30am, when they stopped a 2005 Cadillac for a traffic violation.

NPSO reported during the traffic stop, deputies smelled a "strong marijuana smoke odor", and while interviewing the occupants of the vehicle,  a female passenger admitted to smoking marijuana.

Deputies said they obtained permission to search the vehicle, seizing a bottle containing approximately 31 suspected clonazepam pills, a CDS Schedule IV narcotic and suspected marijuana residue.

Veronica Ann Granado, 40 of Dallas, Texas was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Illegal Possession of CDS Schedule IV Clonazepam.

Granado is awaiting bond.

Deputies say the occupants of the vehicle were traveling from Dallas to Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans.

Deputies Brandon Smith and Corey Campbell were assisted by agents with the Natchitoches Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force.
