NPSO arrest two Shreveport men on drug charges; weapon seized

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office deputies arrested two Shreveport man on felony drug charges while traveling on Interstate-49 to the New Orleans area on March 1, 2014, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday afternoon at approximately 1:35pm, deputies assigned to the NPSO Criminal Patrol Unit were working on Interstate-49 north of Powhatan, when they attempted to stop a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt for a traffic violation.

Deputies say as they were attempting to stop the vehicle, the vehicle attempted to elude them by taking the Powhatan exit.

Deputies say as they vehicle was exiting Interstate-49 they observed the passenger discarding what appeared to be narcotics evidence out of the passenger window.

Deputies reported they continued pursuing the vehicle with emergency lights and siren as it turned onto La. Hwy 485 and finally stopping in a RV park near the Allen community.

Additional NPSO units responded to assist.

Deputies were able to take both occupants of the vehicle into custody without incident.

Deputies were able to collect suspected marijuana from the roadway discarded from the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle and occupants also led to the seizure of a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol, along with approximately $3,125 US currency.

Deputies arrested Devoncie Letre Dotson, 22, and Adrius Montreal Brown, 18, both of Shreveport.

Dotson was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and charged with Possession of CDS Schedule I Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Illegal Possession of Firearm during a  Narcotics Offense, and Flight from an Officer.

Brown was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and charged with Possession of CDS Schedule I Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Illegal Possession of a Firearm during a Narcotics Offense, and Criminal Obstruction of Justice.

Both suspects who have prior narcotics arrest histories await bond.

The seized currency will be turned over to the Natchitoches Parish District Attorney's Office for Asset Forfeiture Proceedings in the Tenth Judicial District Court.

Additional evidence suggests that the seized narcotics was believed to used for distribution purposes.
