Menard National Merit Scholars

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel)--A ceremony was held at Menard High School Thursday for two students receiving top honors.

And -  they're twins! Amelia and Gabrielle Lessen have been chosen as finalists in the National Merit Scholarship program.  They're the only students in Rapides Parish to receive this honor - which is based on test scores from the preliminary SAT test.

Principal Joel Desselle says it's a high honor for the school as well as the sisters.

"It's a great honor for our school and great recognition for the type of students our school puts out into the community and once again it's a great honor for them and they've worked hard and not only are they great students, they're also student athletes, they're involved in a lot of extracurricular stuff so they're just well-rounded students who have just really achieved," Desselle said.

News Channel Five's Rachael Penton will introduce us to Amelia and Gabrielle Friday night at six and ten in the Young Achiever's Spotlight.
