Jackson Street Bridge closed March 15-16

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Louisiana Department ofTransportation and Development (DOTD), advises the public that beginning on SaturdayMarch 15th , 2014 at 7:00 AM the Gillis W. Long Bridge (alsoknown as the Jackson Street Bridge), US 165-B over the Red River, will beclosed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic until Sunday March 16th2014 at 6:00 PM .

The purpose of this closure is to allow for the replacementof electrical components which will require the bridge to remain in the raisedposition. 

The public is advised to use thesuggested detours listed below and avoid the O.K. Allen Bridge if at allpossible. This will alleviate congestion and travel time.


AlexandriaSuggested Detour


JacksonStreet (LA 1203-A/ US 165) traffic is to detour onto Bolton Avenue (US 165/ LA1/ LA 28), which then turns into Bringhurst Street, traffic is to exit ontoCasson Street (LA 1/ LA 28 - North) then merging onto US 167 PinevilleExpressway (Purple Heart Bridge).


ExitUS 167 Pineville Expressway (Purple Heart Bridge) onto Winn Street (LA 1/ LA 28– South) then turn right onto Bringhurst Street (LA 1/ LA 28/ US 165), whichthen turns into Bolton Avenue, traffic is to then exit onto Jackson Street (LA1203-A/ US 165).

PinevilleSuggested Detour


MainStreet (US 165) traffic is to detour onto E. Shamrock Avenue (LA 1250) and thenmerge onto US 167 Pineville Expressway (Purple Heart Bridge).


ExitUS 167 Pineville Expressway (Purple Heart Bridge) onto E. Shamrock Avenue (LA1250) then exit onto Main Street (US 165).

Nopermitted loads will be allowed during the bridge closure.
