Alexandria Heart Walk

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)--A gathering in Alexandria Saturday helped bring awareness of  heart health one step at a time. News channel 5's Steven Maxwell takes us front and center to the Alexandria Heart Walk.

When it comes to love, the heart is usually one of the first things that comes to mind. And it was a beautiful day for a walk.

We are so excited that everyone is out here supporting this organization," Regional Director for the American Heart Association Kourtny Bratton said.

It's the American Heart Association's Heart Walk--where people are making strides to support those affected by heart disease and stroke.

"We are walking for family members that have passed away from heart disease," Andrew Jackson, a participant, said.

Andrew Jackson is walking for three of his family members--including his mom who passed away from heart disease.

"It is a great cause for everyone to come out together for a cure for heart disease," Jackson said.

Jordan Goleman is holding a torch in honor of her niece Elizabeth, who passed away last year at just three and a half weeks old.

It has taken us a long time to get over that and she was just a really big part of our lives, and to be in memory of her is just amazing," Goleman said.

It is a super hero themed walk this year--and Celeste Delrie is in full support for the patients she works with every day.

"Since we do take care of heart patients we become really close with our patients. So we have a lot of people we walk for that too," Delrie said.

But most of all...the love in these hearts was displayed in every step along the way. In addition to the walk, a health fair was set-up to show the risk factors for heart disease and stroke.
