Deville man arrested for criminal sexual conduct

DEVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On Feb. 7, 2014, the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office received a complaint in reference to allegation of sexual criminal acts that had occurred in the Deville area. 

RPSO said the complainant reported to have received information that David Carroll Cole, 65, of Deville, had committed multiple criminal sexual acts upon a juvenile. 

During their investigation, detectives reported they were able to establish enough probable cause that supported the allegations. 

Warrants were obtained for Cole's arrest and on March 10, 2014, detectives made contact with Cole at the RPSO Deville Substation. 

Cole was taken into custody without incident and later booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on multiple criminal sexual conduct charges, according to RPSO.

Cole's bond is currently set at $500,000.00. 

Cole is currently being held without bond at the time of this release.

In Sep. 1987, Cole was arrested by RPSO Detectives on one count Aggravated Oral Sexual Battery and in Jan. 1988, he pled guilty as charged to one count Aggravated Oral Sexual Battery. 

According to court documentation, Cole was sentenced to serve eight years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections. 

The sentence was then suspended and Cole was placed on five year's supervised probation.  

Because the State of Louisiana at that time did not require persons convicted of sexually based offences to register as a "Sex Offender", upon completion of his sentence Cole was not required to be monitored by law enforcement.        

"Sex offences perpetrated against children are some of the worse cases we have to investigate.  The Sex Offender Registry is a great tool law enforcement uses to monitor people convicted of these types of crimes and is sometimes helpful in preventing further criminal activity" said Sheriff William Earl Hilton. 

"Protecting our children against sexual predators is of the utmost importance."
