Too Much Fat Increases Risk Of Ovarian Cancer

Posted: Updated:

Women with more body fat have an increased risk of ovarian cancer. That's according to a new review of 25 studies ... Involving four million women.

While obese women had the greatest risk of ovarian cancer, those who were overweight also had increased odds of developing the disease. Researchers say this may be because fat cells secrete estrogen, leptin and other hormones which can fuel the growth of cancer cells.

There may also be a genetic cause that affects both body growth and cancer. Body weight can also affect colon, pancreatic, endrometrial, kidney, and breast cancers.
