After a cold start, Thursday turned out to be a gorgeous day.
Morning lows fell all the way down to 29 degrees at Winnfield and Fairfield with Jena, Natchez, Miss., and Leesville at 30 degrees. Marksville stayed at 38 degrees and the D.G. Hunter Power Plant in Alexandria reported 37. The 30-year daily average is 47 and the record is 27 in 1948.
Full sunshine warmed the air quickly. Bellwood and Winnfield maxed out at 71 degrees while Many hit 70. Opelousas was the cool spot with a high of 64 degrees. Normally we see an average of 70 degrees and the record is 89 set during the heat wave of 1911.
The weather pattern changes on Friday as moisture increases ahead of a developing storm system over the southwestern U.S. More significant changes are in store for the weekend as rain becomes likely.
