Thousands attend Heart Walk in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On March 8, 2014, over 4,000 people in the CentralLouisiana community attended the annual Cenla Heart Walk, an event to benefitthe lifesaving work of the American Heart Association.

The walkers united tocelebrate the campaign at The Big Island Field near the zoo. This year, theAmerican Heart Association, Heart Walk Chair, Dr. Craig Pearce and volunteerleadership will raise over $150,000.

Combining fitness and philanthropy,this annual walk brought together presenting sponsor CHRISTUS St. FrancesCabrini Hospital and other corporate sponsors, walk teams, and individualwalkers.

The Heart Walk also celebrated survivors of heart disease and strokeand lifestyle change heroes who are all continually taking steps toward ahealthier lifestyle while raising funds to combat heart disease and stroke, theNo. 1 and No. 4 leading killers, respectively, of American men and women.

The2014 Cleco Lifestyle Change Award winner was Patty Gauthier from BarksdaleFederal Credit Union. Proceeds support research, education and communityprograms of the American Heart Association. Activities at the event included aspecial kid's zone, health screenings, hands only CPR, entertainment, originalt-shirt design contest, superhero meet and greet, and a VIP area.

There weremany awards given out. Southern Heritage Bank won the t-shirt design contest.Diva's Divine, the top community team, raised over $4000. Our top walker, TinaGreer of RRMC, raised over $5000.

There are also outstandingcompany groups who have excelled in fundraising. As of today, the 2014 TopThree Companies are as follows.

2.Southern Heritage Bank

3. Roy O Martin
