Nursery Festival Helps Fund Fire Dept.

FOREST HILL, La. (KALB News Channel 5)-The Louisiana Nursery Festival isn't just a money maker for vendors.

The Forest Hill Volunteer Fire Department depends on the festival for about half of it's
yearly budget.

Money from the booth sales and carnival rides is used by the department to maintain equipment and provide training for the staff.

Fire Chief Michael Armstrong says that while the festival is important for the department's operations, it's also a fun time for the community.

"We help out not just the community but people passing through from other towns and states so it benefits everybody but it also benefits people for time with their families and spending time with friends and the atmosphere out here," says Armstrong.

On an average year, the fire department is able to collect $30-$35,000 from the event.
