DRY PRONG, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Whether it's a victim in an accident, a cancer patient or apremature baby, the need for blood exists daily.

On Tuesday, March 18,Jena Choctaw Pines Casino will try to help beat the odds of a low blood supplyby hosting its first community wide blood drive.

The LifeShare bus willbe parked in the guest parking area near the front of the casino from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Each blood donor will receive a mini physical, includingcholesterol test, a t-shirt, AND $10 in "Jena Cash" that the donor may use toplay after donating.

To serve the hospitals in central Louisiana, LifeShare BloodCenters in Alexandria needs to collect a minimum of 100 units of blood eachday.

Winter weather closures and illnesses have greatly impacted theblood supply.  According to Debra Ainsworth, Donor Recruiter, "There weredays during the snow and ice, when no blood was collected at all.

On thedays that followed, very few units were collected.  We can't get thosedays back nor the units of blood."

The current blood supply is very low and donors are needednow.

Each unit of blood may save up to three lives.  Blood donorsare guaranteed "winners" in the "high stakes" of saving lives.
