An Earlier Way To Diagnose Preeclampsia

Changes in a pregnant woman's metabolism could help diagnose preeclampsia in the first trimester.

The dangerous blood pressure disorder usually isn't detected until late pregnancy and can threaten the health of both mom and baby. But scientists in Norway identified changes in the blood and urine of women with preeclampsia not seen in women with normal pregnancies and non-pregnant women.

The next step is to detect these changes early in pregnancy and perhaps prevent the disorder before symptoms begin.
