COLD START BUT FINE AFTERNOON

Posted: Updated:

Sunshine and a brisk southerly wind combined to bring central Louisiana a pleasant Tuesday.

It was; however, a frosty start with lows in the 30s. Fairfield in Grant Parish crated to 30 degrees for the lowest reading in the area. Winnfield, Atlanta, and Esler Airport reported 31 degrees. Many was the warm spot with a low of 37 degrees. Normally, we see an average low of 48 degrees. The record low is 26 set in 1976.

Temperatures climbed quickly in response to sunshine and a southerly wind. A few locations saw a turn-around of 40+ degrees from the morning low to the afternoon high. The warmest readings came in from Bellwood and Many with 74 degrees while Opelousas only managed to hit 66 degrees. The daily average is 71 and the record is 87 in 1953.

Temperatures will not be as low tonight as a southerly wind continues and limited moisture moves into the area. A weak cold front will move slowly across CenLa on Wednesday. Increased cloudiness and  few sprinkles will accompany the front.
