RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Dry Prong woman arrested for stealing from disabled employer.

Rapides Parish Deputies have arrested the caregiver of a Pineville woman. RPSO said the suspect Venessa Ann Gauthier allegedly took $750.00 worth of checks from the victim and cashed them. Gauthier also borrowed the victim's vehicle and later refused to return it.

RPSO Detectives began investigating the case and located the forged checks and the victim's vehicle. According to RPSO, Gauthier was located by deputies on March 17 and arrested without incident.

Gauthier was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center for one count of forgery, theft of the assets of a disabled person and unauthorized use of a movable. RPSO said Gauthier was later released on a $3,250.00 bond.

Sheriff William Earl Hilton said citizens should be careful who they choose to care for their family members.

"I urge families that employ caregivers for their loved ones, to keep a close watch on their finances and their well-being," Sheriff Hilton said. "We have to protect those who can't protect themselves."
