Stroke Awareness Could Save Many Women's Lives

Posted: Updated:

Quick treatment is often crucial to surviving a stroke,  but a new report finds many women aren't aware of all of the signs of a stroke.

In a telephone survey of more than 12-hundred women,  more than half correctly identified one of the major warning signs: sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the face or body. But less than half knew other important signs such as difficulty speaking, sudden severe headache, dizziness and sudden vision loss.

A quarter of Hispanic respondents knew none of the warning signs. Experts say stroke risk is greatest among racial minority groups, including Hispanics and blacks.
