Friday was a day of two seasons: an early chill followed by a warm afternoon.
Morning lows ranged through the 40s, with Jena, Natchez, Miss., Jonesville, and Esler Airport at 41 degrees. On the high side of the thermometer, Eunice and the D.G. Hunter Power Plant in Alexandria stayed up at 47. The 30-year daily average is 49 degrees and the record is 23 in 1965.
The stronger late-March sunshine and a brisk southerly breeze turned temperatures around 30-40 degrees today. Winnfield and Simmesport hit 81 degrees while Jonesville, Esler Airport, and Ball-Tioga made it up to 80 degrees. The long-term daily average is 72 and the record is a scorching 93 set in 1907.
The weather pattern changes this weekend with rain in the forecast and conditions will turn colder on Sunday behind a cold front.
