APD compete in 'Heroes Ruck Challenge' fundraiser

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) APD SWAT members march in memory of officers killed in the line of duty.

An effort to honor the memory of  fallen servicemen and women took place in Little Rock, Ark. this weekend. Five members of the Alexandria Police Department's SWAT team competed in the 2014 Heroes Ruck Challenge on March 22, 2014.

APD SWAT marched in honor of Officers David Ezernack and Jeremy Carruth, who were killed in the line of duty on Feb. 20, 2003.

Teams from around the nation competed in the 15.3 mile march carrying a minimum 35 lbs. rucksack in honor of fallen servicemen and women. APD was the only Law Enforcement team competing against active and former duty military, Law Enforcement, Fire and Rescue or EMS units. APD finished the march in four hours and 56 minutes and placed third behind two teams of Army Rangers.

The event benefited the disaster relief program of Central Ark., Sheep Dog Impact Assistance.
