ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Rapides Regional Medical Center held a diabetes screeningin the Alexandria Mall.
The event was called "Diabetes Sound the Alert Day."
The Centers for Disease Control and the American DiabeticAssociation say that there are approximately 7.9 million undiagnosed diabeticsand that being proactive is key to fighting the disease.
"We can decrease complications like: renal failure,kidney failure, blindness, amputation, heart disease, stroke...things likethat. Complications of diabetes," saidAmie Starks, and RN with Rapides Regional.
Although this was a one day event, the diabetes risk testis available year round at the diabetes.org website.
