Maker Of Four Loko Agrees To Change Controversial Beverage

Posted: Updated:

The makers of Four Loko have agreed to remove caffeine from the controversial alcoholic beverage.

The change is the result of a settlement between Phusion Projects and 20 state attorneys general, who lodged a complaint against the company in 2011. Phusion has also agreed not to market Four Loko to underage consumers and to stop using models who appear to be under age 21.

Four Loko, which contains as much alcohol as four regular beers, has been linked to binge drinking in teens, health problems and even a few deaths.

Phusion voluntarily removed caffeine from Four Loko in 48 states several years ago. This settlement prevents the company from ever adding it back to the drink.
