Is Your Doctor Raising Your Blood Pressure?

Doctors may be raising blood pressure in their own patients!

A new study compared blood pressure readings in one-thousand patients whose measurements were taken by a doctor and a nurse during the same visit. Recordings taken by a doctor were significantly higher and sometimes lead to unnecessary treatments and medications for hypertension.

Because patients can have this physical response to being assessed by a doctor, researchers suggest other health care professionals should record blood pressure when treatment is being considered.
