Marathon Training Has Many Benefits

Training for a marathon can help cut the risk of cardiovascular disease among middle aged men.

Researchers studied 45 recreational male runners participating in a 18-week marathon training program, which included group runs, endurance training and other coaching tips. After completing the program, the men showed improvements in the size, shape and overall function of the heart.

They also had lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels and reduced their body mass index by one-percent.
