RPSO Responds to Weather Related Calls

RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office responded to 27 weather related calls Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Most of the calls consisted of down trees and power lines.  There were some traffic accidents but with only minor injuries, according to RPSO.

RPSO along with Troop E responded to a motor vehicle accident near LA Hwy  121  and Holt Store Rd where the driver attempted to avoid a tree but the winds were so strong, the vehicle was actually picked up and slammed into the tree.

Again, only minor injuries were sustained and both occupants were wearing their seatbelts, RPSO said.

Sheriff William Earl Hilton would like to remind the public to exercise caution when hiring someone to remove debris or work on structural damage to their residences.

"When bad weather comes through an area, people posing as legitimate contractors and debris haulers tend to show up and attempt to take advantage of citizens who have already lost so much" said Sheriff Hilton.  "Make sure and hire someone that is reputable and has a track record of doing good work."
