VPSO responds to multiple weather-related calls Friday night

VERNON PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office reported that Deputies and First Responders, including area Fire Departments, responded to numerous weather related calls on the night of March 28, 2014.

A strong line of thunderstorms passing through the parish caused damage to several residences within the parish.

The VPSO received a report of one residential roof torn from a house in the Simpson area. 

Other persons reported that sheds, barns, and other various out buildings had been damaged, according to VPSO.

Deputies responded to two motor vehicle accidents resulting from downed trees. No injuries were reported in the accidents.

VPS said deputies also responded to nine calls of downed trees across roadways in various areas of the parish. 

The Vernon Parish Police Jury responded to clear debris from the roadways.

It was also reported that many area residents lost electrical power due to storm damage and at the time of this release the majority of electricity has been restored.

Sheriff Craft would like to thank residents for exercising caution and patience during this weather event.
