APD arrest suspect for Chester Street homicide

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On March 31, 2014, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Alexandria Police arrested Mark Russell Thomas, 31, of Pineville in connection with a homicide on Chester Street. 

Thomas was charged with 1 count of First Degree Murder in the March 31, 2014, shooting death of Jenain Simmons, 37, of Laredo, Texas near the 100 block of Chester St. in Alexandria, . 

Thomas was located and taken into custody without incident in the 2500 block of Military Highway in Pineville, LA, by Alexandria Police Detectives with the assistance of Pineville Police and Rapides Parish Sheriff's Department. 

Thereafter, Thomas was transported to and booked into the Rapides Parish Jail. 

As the investigation is ongoing – no further details will be released at this time.

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Alexandria Police Department is currently investigating a homicide.

APD reported officers were dispatched to a home on the 100 block of Chester Street around 12:30 p.m. this afternoon on a report of a victim with at least one gun shot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, where he later died.

The victim's identification is being withheld pending notification of the family.

APD does not have any information on suspects at this time.

No further details are available at this time.
