BALL, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On April 2, 2014, at approximately 11:45 a.m., the Ball Police Department received a call in reference to a subject that had been struck by a train traveling northbound near Ball Loop.

Upon arrival, police and medical personnel determined that the male subject involved was deceased.

BPD stated initial investigation determined the white male, identified as Arch Youngblood, Jr., of Pineville, was walking on the left side of the railroad tracks, away from the approaching train.

The train conductor sounded the horn several times, but was unable to gain the attention of Mr. Youngblood, according to BPD.

Police determined that Mr. Youngblood was wearing headphones and was listening to music. Police say it appeared he was unable to hear the approaching train.

The Chief of Police Melvin O. Williams would like to advise the public that it is illegal to walk on railroad tracks, as well as unsafe.
