Boil advisory issued for some in Leesville

Posted: Updated:

LEESVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Some city of Leesville water customers are under a boil advisory.

The Public Works Department of the City of Leesville is in the process of repairing an (eight) 8 inch water main break in the WalMart parking lot.

This repair is estimated to take six hours.  Surrounding businesses will experience loss of water within the vicinity of WalMart in the City of Leesville due to this water main break.

Anyone that has experienced water loss, specifically within the vicinity of Wal-Mart, is under a Boil Advisory.

1.  Boil water for one full minute in a clean container. The one minute boil time begins after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.

2.       If the water is clear, mix 1/8 teaspoon of unscented, liquid chlorine laundry bleach with one gallon of water and let it stand for at least 30 minutes prior to consumption. If the water is cloudy or colored, use ¼ teaspoon per gallon of water. Be sure to mix thoroughly. If the treated water has too strong a chlorine taste, it can be made more palatable by allowing the water to stand exposed to the air for a few hours or by pouring it from one clean container to another several times.

3.       If the water is clear, mix 5 drops of 2% United States Pharmacopeia (USP) tincture of iodine solution to each quart of clear water and let it stand for 30 minutes prior to consumption. If the water is cloudy or colored, use 10 drops to each quart of water.
