American Ace Hardware

In September 1973, American Ace Hardware opened its doors in Ball, LA. Owner Chuck Couvillion was 21 years old at that time, the youngest Ace dealer in the country. The store's name reflects the deep patriotic feelings of his parents who both served in Europe in WWII.  Chuck's father and mother owned and operated H.L. Couvillion Building Materials in Alexandria, which became an Ace dealer in the mid 1960's.  After attending his first Ace Hardware Show with his dad in Atlanta in 1970, Chuck was inspired to become an Ace dealer.   With his parents help and guidance, that is exactly what he did.  September 2013 marks American Ace Hardware's 40th year in business.  Chuck and his staff would like to thank their great customers for allowing us to serve you as your Helpful Hardware Folks.

We opened a second store (Chuck's Ace Hardware in Pineville, La.) in 1984. The game plan was to give great customer service, backed with superior product knowledge and combined with the right merchandise. During the same period, an aggressive training program was instituted for both stores, resulting in even better customer service. Over the years, Chuck's Ace Hardware has overcome numerous obstacles, and met with an overwhelming customer base.

On February 1991, contractors working on American Ace Hardware's new entrance accidentally started a devastating fire that destroyed everything. Amazingly, no one was injured. Two days after the fire, a half page ad appeared in the "Alexandria Town Talk," and 53 customers and local businesses got together to send this message, "American Ace Hardware, we are sorry for your loss, we want you to come back strong." Chuck Couvillion said, "To this day, words cannot express the warm emotion felt towards them for their care and support." A year later, the store was rebuilt and American Ace Hardware was back serving the community.

During the summer of 1991, Ace Hardware Corporation introduced the ACE 2000 program.  This was designed was to bring its 5200 independent owner/dealers to embrace new technologies to enhance business management practices as well as update inventory mix and interior décor.  When American Ace Hardware was rebuilt, it was designed as an Ace 2000 store. In 1992, after a lot of dedication and hard work, the new store received the highest award for being "The Best of the Best" Ace store in the nation and 53 foreign countries as per our customers request, we came back strong.

In 2007, construction began on Couvillion's Ace Hardware, LLC. in Mansura. The grand opening was met with an enormous positive response from our new customer base in Avoyelles Parish. Our employees were new to the hardware business but completed the training program with enthusiasm.  The top comment from our shoppers was about their love for our customer service and appreciation of us for opening in their community. Couvillion's Ace Hardware is in its 5th year of business, and is still providing great customer service with a smile.

Thanks to all our customers from all of us at Ace!
