Thursday had all the characteristics of spring: warmth, humidity, wind, and a mix of clouds and sunshine.
It was the warmest morning of the year with lows in the upper 60s to the lower 70s. Oberlin, Jena, Opelousas, andJena reported a low of 68 degrees while Oakdale only managed a low of 72 degrees. These temperatures are 15-20 degrees higher than typical values.
With such a warm start, afternoon highs had no problem reaching the 80s. Fort Polk and Opelousas were the "cool" spots with 80 degrees while Simmesport hit 86. Colfax and Esler Airport reported 85 degrees. The typical high for early April is 75 and the record is 87 in 1974.
Scattered patchy light rain and drizzle fell across portions of central Louisiana with mostly trace amounts observed.
