Start A Heart Event Teaches CPR

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)--It's the simple steps that could save a life....and many learned them for the first time Saturday. it was for the "Start A Heart" event.

Nearly 500 people learned how to use hands-on CPR and conventional CPR. There were also classes to teach people how to use an AED machine and how to save someone who is choking -- using the heimlick maneuver. Important skills that instructors say could be extremely usful in an emergency.

"This is a life saving skill, CPR is a life-saving skill. We have heard from people who have told us over and over again that without CPR they would not be here today, and that is absolutely the truth. CPR saves lives, it is proven that it saves lives," said Event Coordinator David Melancon

"Start A Heart" was so popular that it will become a yearly event.
