Costs Of Childhood Obesity Continue To Rise

Posted: Updated:

A new estimate of the cost of childhood obesity equals 19-thousand dollars per child.

Researchers at the Duke University Global Health Institute tallied predicted medical costs for obesity, like doctor visits and medication for the study. Obesity raises the risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes and certain cancers.

Roughly one in five children in the U-S is obese. Lifetime medical costs for all of the 10-year-olds in the country considered obese reaches 14-billion dollars for that age alone.
