ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) — Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC) will host its first Honors Convocation on Sunday, April 13, 2013, at 4 p.m. in the Coughlin Saunders Performing Arts Center to recognize the academic achievements of students, including those on the Chancellor's List, Dean's List and Honor's List.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley will deliver the keynote address.  Finley, a 1984 graduate of Pineville High School, is the first female U.S. Attorney appointed to serve in Louisiana. She is responsible for overseeing all federal criminal prosecutions in 42 of the 64 parishes in the state.

The college also will hold chapter charter and student induction ceremonies for several new honor societies.  The honor societies to be chartered are Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, academic; National Technical Honor Society, technical studies; Gamma Beta Phi Society, academic and community service; Alpha Beta Gamma International Business Honor Society, business; and The National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses Student Honor Society, practical nursing.

"This celebration of academic excellence is a milestone in CLTCC's history because it's our first-ever Honors Convocation," said Kevin D. Stewart, vice chancellor for academic and student affairs.  "Events like this allow us to celebrate our students' success and share their achievements with family members, friends and other members of the community."

The Honors Convocation is free and open to the public.  CLTCC plans to make it an annual event.
