MARKSVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Louisiana Fragile X Association to "walk for a cure" in Marksville.

A fundraising event is coming up in Marksville on May 3.

The Louisiana Fragile X Association will host a 1.5 mile walk for a cure beginning at 9 a.m. on the corner of Tucker and Main next to the Knoll Law Firm. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the community is invited to come out and enjoy a day of fun that will include bounce houses, face painting, food, games and door prizes.

All of the proceeds will go towards researching, and ultimately, finding a cure for FXS: a genetic condition that causes intellectual disability and behavioral and learning challenges. More information about FXS can be found at www.fragilex.org.

Online registration for the walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $15 for adults and $12 for ages 12 and under. The fee covers T-shirts and lunch.

Information about volunteering for the event can be found at centralla@fragilex.org or by calling (318) 500-9315.
