A Little Bedside Manner Goes A Long Way

A doctor with good people skills may have healthier patients. Researchers at the University of Iowa looked at thirteen studies that analyzed how a doctor's interaction with their patients affected health outcomes.

They found doctors who used relationship-building techniques, like maintaining eye contact, listening without interrupting, and using motivational speech when discussing treatment options, had healthier patients.

For example, their patients were more likely to have their blood pressure under control and lose weight.
