Shrine Circus at the Coliseum

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -- The Shrine Circus is back in town this weekend at the Rapides Parish Coliseum.

The show is put on by the Cenla Shrine Club and will be the last show at the Coliseum before renovations begin.

There's something at the circus for all ages - from showgirls, to lions and tigers, to death defying acrobat tricks.

A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales benefit Shriners Hospital for Children nationwide. The hospitals treat children with orthopedic conditions, burns and other deformities.

"It goes to a great cause," said Clay Brister, president of the Cenla Shrine Club. "The kids just really enjoy the circus. Everybody enjoys the circus. We bring in the children from St. Mary's and a lot of the special needs children. It's good entertainment. It puts a smile on their face. You can't leave the circus without smiling."

The circus will hold performances on Saturday at 10am, 2pm and 7pm. It wraps up Sunday with shows at 2pm and 6pm.

Tickets are $10. Children under 12 are free.
