ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -- Central Louisiana Technical Community College hosted its first honors convocation Sunday at the Coughlin Saunders Center.

The event honored more than 300 students for their academic achievements.

Those being honored included students on the chancellor's, dean's and honor's list.

U.S. Attorney, Stephanie Finley, delivered the keynote address.

The school says it's important to recognize the students for all of their hard work and success.

"All of our students work extremely hard each day," said Rodney Ellis, chancellor. "They make a lot of sacrifices. Their families make a lot of sacrifices. It's important for us as a community college to recognize those sacrifices and their efforts and achievements."

The college also held several chapter charter and student induction ceremonies at the event.

The school plans to make the convocation an annual affair.
