City of Alexandria clarifies Bringhurst stance

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - We just interviewed Daniel Williams, director of community services for the City of Alexandria, to allow the city to clarify its plans for Bringhurst Field.

"At this time, there was simply a proposal. There was never any absolute plans. If you look at our information packet, there was simply a proposal to get the conversation started. There has been no decision made on Bringhurst Park," said Williams.

"You say you don't want to tear it down, but there's still a proposal," said reporter Brooke Buford.

"As far as us, at this time, like I said, there is no definite plans for Bringhurst as far as what's going to be done. I do want to stress that Bringhurst right now, without the funds from a dedicated revenue, it's going to be threatened. So, at this point, you almost have to say we'll leave it there," said Williams.

News Channel 5 also spoke with Adam Lord, from the Save Bringhurst Field group.

The groups has now spoken with the city about the proposal and admit they may have misunderstood the plans.

"Perhaps we took that to mean, demolish or destroy and I think that's inaccurate from our side as well. I think that re-purpose has a lot of connotations and after speaking with the city, re-purpose seems to mean multi-user facility, including baseball, which is what we were after," said Lord.

The vote on the millage rate hike will take place May 3rd.
