CONWAY, ARK. (KALB News Channel 5) Kellye Kincannon's team-high three RBI aided in the Northwestern State softball team's 10-3 Southland Conference win over Central Arkansas Sunday afternoon at Farris Field.

Kincannon got things started for the Lady Demons (19-18 overall, 8-8 SLC) in the first with a two-run RBI double to left center. Her sacrifice fly mid-way through the third gave NSU a 3-0 advantage over the Bears (18-27, 8-9).

Brianna Rodriguez put UCA at an arm's length later in the inning with a RBI single up the middle with runners on second and third, and forced the Bears to make their first of three pitching changes.

"We got ahead early today, which helped in maintaining the lead throughout the game," said sixth-year head coach Donald Pickett. "This win was something we needed, not only to capture the series, but to bring us up in the conference standings."

A single run came in the fourth when Brittany Virgoe sent a RBI single up the middle with runners on first and second and two outs.

The Lady Demons had their biggest inning of the day in the sixth with four runs off five hits and a UCA error. NSU loaded up the bases right from the start of the inning to draw Cassandra Barefield in the lineup. The Houston, Texas, native dished out a two-run RBI double to left center, and was driven home, along with Virgoe, as Rodriguez singled up the center. Rodriguez and Barefield advanced to second and home, respectively, on a throwing error from center fielder Amy Gunnels.

Sophomore Natalie Landry gave NSU its 10th and final run in the seventh when she was brought in to pinch hit for Kayla Boening. Landry rocked her third homer of the season with a hard shot over the center field fence.

UCA's Jessie Taylor secured all three of the Bears' runs in the bottom of the sixth with a three-run homer to left field.

Senior Kaylee Guidry (7-3) threw a complete game in the circle, and tyed her season-high of five strikeouts while giving up six hits.

The Lady Demons return home on Friday to host conference newcomer Incarnate Word in a three-game series beginning at five o'clock at the Lady Demon Diamond. NSU will participate in a breast cancer awareness game on April 23 when in-state rival Louisiana Tech comes to Natchitoches on April 23. The single game is slated to begin at 6:00.
