NATCHITOCHES, LA. (KALB News Channel 5) Northwestern State softball first baseman Brianna Rodriguez has been named Southland Conference softball Hitter of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Rodriguez, a senior, recorded a .727 average at the plate to aid the Lady Demons (19-18 overall, 8-8 SLC) in a 2-1 series win over league foe Central Arkansas over the weekend.

The Rowlett, Texas, native went 8-for-12 and picked up five RBI, including a solo homer, one of seven for the Lady Demons this weekend, and a pair of runs scored. She also recorded a team-high .750 on base percentage.

Two of Rodriguez's RBI were recorded on Sunday off three hits to aid in the 10-3 win to bring home the series.

Northwestern State hosts conference newcomer Incarnate Word in a three-game series beginning on Friday at five o'clock at the Lady Demon Diamond, and will participate in a breast cancer awareness game on April 23 with in-state rival Louisiana Tech at 6:00, also at home.
