NATCHITOCHES – Looking to continue its win streak in midweek games, the Northwestern State baseball team will host Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday at 6:30 at Brown-Stroud Field in non-conference action.
The contest will be carried on 100.7 KZBL-FM in Natchitoches, and will be streamed for free on NSUDemons.com.
The Demons (21-14) have won their last three non-conference contests; the last was at Louisiana-Monroe (16-22) seven days before Tuesday's contest. Northwestern State fell behind 3-1 after the first inning, but a four-run second inning provided the Demons with enough to take the game 8-6.
Right-handed pitcher Josh Morris (0-0, 6.30 earned run average) will start on the mound for Northwestern State. He has appeared in nine games, and pitched 10 innings with five strikeouts and six walks.
Payton Coddou (0-1, 4.87) will start for the Warhawks, and is expected to be the first of several pitchers ULM will toss. Coddou has appeared in 10 games and started one, and has 20.1 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks.
"Bruce (Peddie) has those guys playing hard. Last week was a really good midweek game, and our guys played really well," said head coach Lane Burroughs. "We swung the bats really well and had some good bullpen work.
Chase Daughdrill took over as the Demons' leading hitter after the McNeese State series. He has a .304 batting average and 31 runs batted in. Nathan Lyons has a .299 batting average followed by Bret Underwood (.298), Cort Brinson (.293) and Caleb Dugas (.292).
Kodie Tidwell and Justin Stawychny lead Louisiana-Monroe with .290 averages, and Anthony Herrera has a .289 batting average. Dalton Herrington has 25 RBIs and Stawychny has 23 RBIs on the season.
"Bruce is going to have them ready to go, and they've been playing well," said Burroughs.
In the last contest between the two programs, Brinson and Lyons each had two hits in four at-bats. Brinson had three runs batted in and one run scored. Underwood, Edwin Gomez, Dugas and C.J. Webster all added hits.
Evan Tidwell, Cameron Brewer, Joey Parrack and Steven Spann all appeared out of the bullpen for NSU. Tidwell throw three innings and allowed one run on one hits and two walks. Parrack and Spann combined for three innings pitched and allowed only one combined walk.
After Louisiana-Monroe, Northwestern State will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game league conference series. The first game will be on Thursday at 6:30.
