RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On April 9, 2014, detectives assigned to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office Metro Division seized one-quarter pound of Methamphetamine, closing a three week investigation into Methamphetamine distribution.

Detectives established leads weeks ago that a subject identified as Gene Richard, 34, of Natchitoches, regularly transported several ounces of Methamphetamine into Rapides Parish, according to RPSO.

On April 9, 2014, Richard traveled south on I-49 into Rapides Parish under surveillance.

Detectives contacted him at a local business near I-49 and Airbase Road.

RPSO said Richard consented to a search of his vehicle where one-quarter pound of Methamphetamine was located.

Richard was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center for one count Possession of CDS II to Distribute.  He was later released on $10,000 bond.

Methamphetamine is routinely sold for $100-$120 per gram to end users, but can be purchased by the ounce for between $1200-1600 making a street resale value of this seizure over $13,000.00.

Detectives said they have identified potential buyers from Richard and the investigation is still on-going.
