(KALB News Channel 5) - An Opelousas man was arrested on April 14 by St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Deputies after an altercation he had with a female victim.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Captain Megan Vizena said, "Deputies responded to Opelousas General Hospital where they met with a female victim who had several large lacerations on her forearms and thighs.

SLPSO stated the victim told deputies that Walter Zachery attacked her with a knife while she was walking to her residence on Daisy Lane in Opelousas.

The victim explained that Zachery stabbed her while she was attempting to fight him off. She was able to free herself from Zachery and she was able to make it back to her residence."

At the scene deputies found large amounts of blood where the altercation occurred, according to SLSPO.

Vizena stated, "Zachery was located and detained by Washington Police Department. He was then turned over to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office."

"Zachery was charged with attempted second degree murder. He is being held at the St. Landry Parish Jail with a $100,000 bond," Vizena added.
