ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On Tuesday April 15, at approximately 8:50 a.m., a deputy assigned to Courthouse Security was working the metal detector when a subject that was attempting to enter the courthouse for business, kept setting off the detector.

According to RPSO, when the deputy past the wand over the subject, identified as Cedrick Dewayne McNeal, 37 of Alexandria, the wand kept detecting something metallic near a front pocket.

The deputy noticed a bulge in the pocket and when the deputy asked the subject to empty the pocket, he concealed the contents in his hand stating it was money, stated RPSO.

The deputy, wanting to be sure it was not a weapon, ask him to show him the money and the subject opened his hand and showed the deputy it was a small bag of suspected marijuana.

McNeal was taken into custody and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center for 1 count Possession of Marijuana 1st Offense.  He was later released on a $500.00 bond.

"The safety of our citizens and the employees in the courthouse count on the thorough job these deputies do that are assigned to the metal detectors.  Fortunately this was not a weapon" said Sheriff William Earl Hilton.  "We have taken on the responsibility for the security of the courthouse and that is what we are going to do."
